Hi, I’m Debra, founder of Helios Arts, the home of beautiful and enchanting arts.

A Fine Art Photographer, bookworm, lover of the arts, ruins, gothic cathedrals, museums and Japanese gardens.

I have deep knowledge of art history, psychology and the science of well-being.

I know from experience that a creative life is rich and meaningful. And I believe the world needs more heartfelt, beautiful and enchanting art, music, performance, poetry and writing.

My speciality is working with people in midlife and into deep retirement who want to reconnect to and rekindle their creativity as they transition from a busy working and family life to a creative life.

My overall philosophy is best stated by Maria Popova:

We make art to know ourselves, to locate ourselves in the web of being, to make ourselves more alive. We make art that, at its best, helps other people locate themselves and live.

Love to hear from you with any questions you might have.

It takes skill to bring something you’ve imagined into the world: to use words to create believable lives, to select the colours and textures of paint to represent a haystack at sunset, to combine ingredients to make a flavourful dish. No one is born with that skill. It is developed through exercise, through repetition, through a blend of learning and reflection that’s both painstaking and rewarding. And it takes time.
